Many Rivers is a non profit organization that has been working in the Yukon since 1969 under our previous name of Yukon Family Services Association. We serve children, youth, adults, and families. The Victim Services and Family Violence Prevention unit of the Yukon Government offers support services and professional help to victims of crime and abuse.

The website has lots of information that you can use to help identify abuse, identify the choices you have, resources you can use, and answer many questions that you may have.

Women's shelters and transition homes are available in communities across the Yukon as a safehaven for women and their children seeking shelter and support in times of crisis. Transportation can be arranged if there isn't a shelter or transition home in your community.

It is important to remember that a woman does not have to be physically abused to come to a shelter or transition home. Abuse comes in many forms – emotional and psychological, financial, as well as physical.

Confidentiality is respected. Staff at the transition homes and shelters will only talk about your situation if you have given them permission to. In addition to sympathetic and knowledgeable staff, you will find other women sharing the home with you. Just talking and sharing experiences can help you as you take the time at these homes to get perspective and gain control of your life.

Transition homes have outreach programs and workers to help you. These homes will provide shelter, food, information, referrals, support and encouragement. While staying at these homes, you will be required to help with cooking and housework, and you will be expected to respect and follow the house rules. Children are always welcome at these homes, but daycare is not provided. Therefore, you will be responsible for the care of your own children.

The Carmacks Safe Home provides temporary shelter for women. The maximum stay is one week.

The Dawson Shelter Society is a temporary shelter facility located in Dawson City serving women on an as-needed basis. The maximum stay is two weeks. General advocacy services are available to clients and women from the community.

Help and Hope for Families Society is a 24-hour shelter home for women and children fleeing an abusive relationship, in transition or in crisis. Women and children can stay for up to one month. Help and Hope for Families offers a 24-hour crisis line, safety, confidentiality, advocacy, resource information, referrals and non-judgmental support.
